Quote:TSKHINVALI, Georgia - Russia sent tanks and reportedly bombed Georgian air bases Friday after Georgia launched a major military offensive Friday to retake the breakaway province of South Ossetia, threatening to ignite a broader conflict Georgia’s pro-Western president said the two countries were at war, while the Bush administration urged both sides to reach a truce and said it was sending an envoy to the region. South Ossetia’s rebel leader Eduard Kokoity claimed there were ”hundreds of dead civilians” in the region's capital of Tskhinvali, Russia’s Interfax news agency quoted him as saying. The fighting is the worst outbreak of hostilities since the province won de facto independence in a war that ended in 1992.

heh.I can even take it further, there were a 1000 US marines not too long ago in Georgia to "train" the their Military....oh and Condoleeza Rice was there recently as well. Who wants to bet that Putin is telling Bush right now in Beijing "Bite Me!".

Looks like Georgia was hoping to take the small area by surprise in the hopes that Russia wouldn't be expecting it. Then these Russian tanks suddenly appear over the border like they were waiting for this.....whoops.

But speaking of conspriacies, many theorist thought Kosovo would trigger WW3 when they declared independence and Russia would come to Serbia's aid (sounds awfully like WW1). But that didn't happen...thus the new theory was WW3 would occur when the United States came to Georgia's aid should Russia invade...with two wars going on an most of Europe dependent on Russia for energy,...thats not likely. Reminds me of a Russian proverb:

"If bear is hibernating, don't wake bear".

If stupidity does occur, and this leads to WW3: Jewish Proverb "Don't own anything you can't throw over a fence".

And then Russia will come to the aid of Zambia. Who was invaded by the neighboring country of Tanzania. Who is an ally of the United States.

I was wondering the same. From AJ's site, it sound most Molokans have left Azerbaijan but we don't hear much about Molokans (Priguni or Postyanni) in the rest of the former Soviet Republics or Russia itself.

Good news is, it looks like this war may be coming to and end. Even better news, the US didn't send troops.
