Once you are on DSL....you will curse dial up. My computer is custom built and I excluded a modem for dial up. If DSL is down, I don't want to be on the net.

Intollerance may reccomend something different, but I swear by Zone Alarm http://www.zonealarm.com/

I have their Firewall and Virus protection. There are no charge's for upgrades and protects the PC very well. At first, its a little annoying to get used to, but now I'm kind of glad. Forced me to really examine what's coming into my computer and what's leaving it. I wouldn't bother with their Anti-Spy package, so far (as of 2/17/05), thier spy software is really no better than Yahoo's. I just downloaded the Yahoo toolbar for free and use its Anti-Spy program.

Is your new comp windows XP? If so it has a firewall if you update everything to XP(SP)2

If not reds link is a good one and intolerances are different but good as well.

Yahoo tool-bar has a spy-ware check but I don't feel itis thourough, but I still run it on occasion.

I use these two as they work together and are free as well but you need to update manually.

The are highly recommened as Zone alarm but it isothers link you can take a look at.

This last link is one other I use --its called ad-aware and really can search the comp thorough.

Sometimes new comp comes with a trial anti-virus .If so get that thing going for now.

Good luck, and keep those viruses , hackers, spys, etc away..*bang*
