damedic Wrote:I too want to thank DHS for his post & I totally agree that in our heritage, we have an awesome collection of spiritually inspired prayers, songs & hymns which are beautiful and full of enrichment.

But...

There will always be the curious, rebellious & just the wandering ear; to music other than what is available in our heritage of Molokan Music. I love our songs & psalmee and I believe that many of our youth do as well, FV! But we have to be open to the person who enjoys all types of music.

What we need, is to encourage that our youth, if they are going to be wandering in the selection of what they listen to, then we need to "Steer or Guide" them to include the music that has a "Message"! And to lessen the secular garbage that is out there.

I truly believe that the majority of our youth will be rebellious in some way. and I believe that some will absolutely hold to the requests, teachings & suggestions provided by their parents & elders, that not all things are beneficial for the ears to hear. But if they are in their rooms with no supervision, if in their vehicles with AM/FM Radios, & CD players (if they now drive), or now, it seems some are constantly plugged into portable MP3 players; they will most likely be listening to music other than Molokan inspired pesni & stikhi. Why not spiritual songs with a message of the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ & everything else that is found in the Bible? I don't see harm, when tempered properly. Scripture teaches: If it is not against the cause of Christianity, then it is in accordance with it. (My interpretation of that scripture).

It is true when Solomon says, Nothing new under the sun: many years ago the music that was entering the curious wandering ear, was ACDC, Aerosmith & Black Sabbath. Today who knows what is out there probably no better & possibly even worse! That ear of today will most likely be drawn to such, that is why I think we err when dis-couraging the youth from listening to "Christian Music".

I think it is much more positive to have that ear tuning into a Positive Message of Hope! Not death, drugs, sex, satanic worship, suicide, violence, body mutilation, etc. All of these are in lyrics of music that some of "OUR" youth do listen to. And yet others do not go to this extreme, but still listen to secular messages that may be milder than above. I have seen many CD cases in our youths cars, Los Angeles, Central Valley & Oregon. And back in the day as well, music other than Molokan and not always Christian. Always was & unfortunately/apparently always will as Solomon said.

We need more able bodied individuals, young men & yes even women to teach spefki. They will be able to instill the beautiful heritage of Molokan singing, where praise & worship are unto God, thru the power of the Holy Spirit. This will increase the knowledge of these songs & hymns in our youth & eventually it will be appreciated even more & for what value it has to our brotherhood.

Bottom line is that Molokans must conform to the worlds christianity, including their music.

If you guys choose to continue this conversation, can you please start a new thread? Thanks.

A thorough knowledge of the Bible is the foundation of all clear views of religion. He that is well-grounded in it will not generally be found a waverer, and carried about by every wind of new doctrine. Any system of training which does not make a knowledge of Scripture the first thing is unsafe and unsound.

Here's one that was sent to me by someone. Sound familiar? I've always liked this song, can anyone share the translation?

Wall,

This is very interesting! Hmmmm. Makes you wonder who is singing whose song?

This is the song that was introduced by Dy. Wm. Wm. Prohoroff

It is "O Sotrudnikov v veri, vi spoite vsye serdechino, Song # 762 (I'm Sorry for the phonetics, I know there is a cyrillic keyboard, I just need to learn to use it)

Translation (to the best of my ability)

Will be posted in the thread about Molokan songs/translations from the Pesinik

Speaking of a chorus you can never get out of your head and singing all day....

Click and play at your own peril.

When faith is chained to doctrine, truth becomes heresy and God is forgotten.
