I need a laptop for a college bound student. I guess basically so they can work on homework where ever. I don't want anything magical but nothing that will frustrate. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want anything too expensive and I am so computer illiterate.

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. |

Periodically, Fry's has great deals advertised. You have to wait for their ads because their normal prices aren't the best, but their ads are great.
I also recommend getting insurance for 4 years because it doesn't cost that much and after a couple of years, the battery wears out and that isn't cheap. Also, other things can go wrong with it too. If they don't have the same exact computer 3-4 years later (which almost certainly they will not), they give you a brand new one. |

Dell has great deals! Especially if you catch a weekend when they have 3 simultaneous promotions. I really like their units and they have excellent customer service, if you can understand indian / pakistani ?? :??? Sometimes you can get lucky and get an american!
But anyway, I just bought (sheeeesh, another computer *PCPunch*) a desk top to replace a really old one that just crashed & I got a very decent machine for a very good price. Also my sister in law got an excellent deal on one of their "Refurbished units" for very little $$$ and it still carried a warranty like one of their "New" machines! They (Dell)are always getting computers returned to them, and they would like to get them right back out. Reasons: Possible regretted making initial purchase then returned; repair return; shipped wrong; decided to upgrade?; etc, etc. They then go thru them completely, then sell them with "New" warranty. Their Inventory is always changing, find a style you may be interested in then check the current inventory. Check it out! Then make a comparison with what IV has. This link is for the "Inspiron" style/model laptops. My son has one of these. My wife has a "Latitude". Both good machines. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products...amp;~ck=mn This link is the general "Outlet" site for laptops, desktops, etc. http://www1.us.dell.com/content/default....amp;~ck=bt Good Luck |

I agree with Stevepiv, especially because some companies like Dell force you only to use programs through them. I understand that you have to use your original Dell disk and cannot use anything else. It limits your freedom to change or to fix it later.

What really helps is to have an awesome brother in law who is knowledgeable on custom computer building. Who also has access to great deals on the internet. Also has the ability to assist you in putting it together on a weekend deal at his beach house. This is what really helped me put together my computer.
