RE: 180movie.com
Quote:Red October,

You build a lot of "straw man" arguments as you critique the Protestant Church's.

Oh really? Let me guess, you have no recourse so now your attempting to do what most evangelicals do when they have no response...dismiss it with a generalization. Whenever someone utters "straw man", usually its they who have the straw man arguments. By the way:

A straw man is a component of an argument and is an informal fallacy based on misrepresentation of an opponent's position, twisting his words or by means of [false] assumptions .[1] To "attack a straw man" is to create the illusion of having refuted a proposition by replacing it with a superficially similar yet unequivalent proposition (the "straw man"), and refuting it, without ever having actually refuted the original position.[1][2] Generally, the straw man is a highly exaggerated or over-simplified version of the opponent's original statement, which has been distorted to the point of absurdity. This exaggerated or distorted statement is thus easily argued against, but is a misrepresentation of the opponent's actual statement.

So, you stated in post 14:

Quote:"I have seen the flock at your church and am amazed of the lack partcipation...except for a doing where it turns into a social gathering".

You implied Molokan gatherings were essentially "social gatherings". So I pointed out how people in glass houses shouldn't be throwing rocks in post 18, when I gave examples, to baptism's, weddings, etc. And I know that's what goes on because I have witnessed it personally. If personal testimony is a "straw man", what does that make the Bible? Plus I've pretty well qualified the issues of the Trinity Doctrine. Oh and "just war"...no I did not qualify that, didn't think I have to, but to dismiss your dismissal:

Oh and your youth of rebellion:

...and if thats not "X-tian" enough for you...

I've supported my arguments, the only thing you given is generalizations based on your emotions.

Quote:I was merely sharing a video that my friends made and was asking for people to view it and pass it along to others. Thanks for watching and if you didn't agree with it, then that's okay. You can send in e-mails to the people who made it and ask them directly why they used or did certain things.

You are flat out being un-truthful and you know it. In post 10 you blew a fuse and went into "evangelism"...when there was nothing being discussed about evangelism, that was very telling. You came here to use the common evangelist technique of finding common ground (in this case, abortion) and then attempt to direct and channel the discussion to a friendly location that is suitable for the target as well. Next you arrive (often accompanied) and start on the agreed topic, but...slowly change the discussion to topics to influence conversion. Its very similar to the Jamaican Switch.

For everyone else, I know can sometimes seem like I'm overshooting you, so let me give you an example:

Evangelist: I'm sure glad we agree that abortion is wrong.

Target: Me to.

Evangelist: Say, how about we take this further and maybe we can make some sort of difference.

Target: That sounds good.

Evangelist: Alright, lets meet at (depending how receptive the target is) ABC Church, Starbucks, XYZ Restaurant, etc.

The Target agrees....and at the day of the meeting.

Evangelist: Its good to meet you, these are some friends of mine who are also against abortion, hope you don't mind, but their is strength in numbers.

They then start on the agreed topic and once it appears that the Target is relaxed and receptive, they may then go into tangents.

Evangelist: That's a good point, it reminds me where <Insert Jesus, Apostle or quoted scripture here> says....

And then they spring the trap, slow methodical and psychological process where they wear you down and slowly convert you with crafted questions that put you in doubt of what you believed before and replace that doubt with their own supposed concrete proofs and its easy to do once they get you to lower your guard. It seems innocent enough..but there is nothing innocent or truthful about it.

And back at "Guest", send them an e-mail?...LOL. Sorry, not falling for it. You blew it and know it, so now you attempt to send me to others that can handle it. If abortion is something you rally against so much, then you would be more than willing to send the suggestions I made yourself. The fact that you want me to do so myself when you obviously have much easier access to these "friends"....it smells of deception.

Quote:Red October, an evangelist should be connected to a local Church and under the authority of Pastors and Elders. Comparing the Bible examples that you mentioned, in our day it would be similar to a Missionary that is either local or abroad and labors to plant a Church somewhere, stay there and labor within it.

Funny, I can't find "Missionary" in the Bible....oh that's right, that word isn't in their. What you describe as "Missionary" is evangelism...what you describe as evangelism is actually proselytism. From Merriam-Webster:

1: to induce someone to convert to one's faith

Furthermore, I seriously doubt Apostle Paul, Thomas, James, etc. were under the authority of Pastors and Elders. An Evangelist is usually the leader and hence not subject to them. Protestants like using "evangelist" because its a better marketing tool.

Quote:For me, I am a member of a local Church and try to stay in our general vicinity and go to weekly events consitently to build relationships with people, invite them to Church, but also share The Gospel with them. But, I am not constrained to a certain area, as I have traveled to different places with other brothers to evangelise.

Sorry, your no evangelist, you proselytize....and your attempting to do it here, with miserable results.

Quote:Red, based on Scripture, should ALL Christians be evangelising/witnessing or just some people, a few...??

What does the Bible say?

Ephesians 4

[11] And his gifts were that some should be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, some pastors and teachers,
[12] to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,
[13] until we all attain to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ;
[14] so that we may no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the cunning of men, by their craftiness in deceitful wiles.

Which reminds me, since you no doubt took a class to proselytize....or in your words, evangelize. Can a person take a class and be an Apostle? How about a Prophet? Would they be qualified as a Pastor or Teacher? Taking a classes on Biology may make someone qualified to be a Biologist in the physical world, but taking classes to be a prophet doesn't make you a prophet in the spiritual world. Instead, it makes you a false prophet or false apostle...and in your case, a false evangelist.

I suggest you bail while you can. Every time you attempt to proselytize, I'll call you out on it....and if I'm in a grumpy mood and don't want to waste my time further, I'll just end up "obliging you again".

So tell me, how do you plan on dealing with that hot weather in Fresno once you move?

When faith is chained to doctrine, truth becomes heresy and God is forgotten.
