If so, what exactly is "thumbs down" about it?
Ok...it starts off with interviewing a bunch of fruit loops who no nothing about Hitler....ok, really? How many people did he have to ask to get that response? If anything, its a testament to failing educational standards...or the parents lack of concern for their education. Oh then, you get a neo-nazi to interview....oh geez, what a surprise at what comes out of his mouth (sarcasm). Seriously, I've seen a lot worse...and not by neo-nazi's, but plain old everyday "Americans".
Take out Hitler? Ok...remember that.
Then they make a comparison to the Jewish Holocaust caused by the Nazi's...ok really? Just how stupid are people? So tell me, are people who have abortions planning and systematically rounding up people who are pregnant and forcing them to have abortions? Are they being put into camps? Get real. Oh and "Take out Hitler"....so are they implying if someone is having an abortion, its ok to take them out? Blow up an abortion clinic lately Steve? This gives them justification to do so.
And then he slam interviews the same fruit loops....geez....what a surprise how things turned out...for now, but what about tomorrow? If they were that fickle and easily convinced today...just how easily will they be convinced otherwise.
Here's a novel thought, how about focusing on the real issues of abortion rather than wearing horse blinders and say "Its bad, the Bible says so"....gee, nobody knows that (sarcasm). How about focusing on:
1. The economic incentive to have an abortion rather than keep it. That being, the slashing of government funding (ironically by the same people who are against abortion) for those single mothers on welfare. If they can't live themselves or provide for the child, you are giving them a huge incentive to abort. Don't want them to live off your tax dollars forever? Simple solution, provide daycare at colleges, while they attend classes and *gasp* get the skills to earn a decent income.
2. How about the negative social stigma of being a single mother (a negative stigma propagated...yet again by the so called "Christian right")? Praising motherhood instead of shaming them would go a long way.
3. Oh and how about educating people on the advantages of adoption? You know, show how people who have no children for whatever reason become overjoyed once they can adopt....shoot, I've seen it here at work. Nah...can't do that, no fear involved and the X-tian right needs fear.
4. Show how grateful those who were adopted and not aborted maybe? And what they can become *cough* Steve Jobs *cough*. But nooo..got to have a video equating those who decide to have an abortion with Nazis.
5. Oh and perhaps give father's more rights? It is half their DNA afterall.
6. How about more women shelters....you know, in case of abusive parents who might force them to have an abortion. Let me guess, you didn't think about that, did you? Sometimes, it isn't the woman's choice.
7. What about education to prevent unwanted pregnancies? Even if you don't exactly agree with the method. Afterall, whats more important, preventing abortion or steering people into a gray area for the time being that's more manageable and perhaps more effective and changing peoples attitude later.
Abortion is just flat out wrong, but scaring and shaming people by the X-tian right will do nothing. C'mon, do you actually think the majority who do have an abortion actually want to do this? If you do, then you are out of touch of reality (then, when it comes to the X-tian right....it doesn't surprise me). Whats going to get more results? Sitting down with someone whose contemplating this horrible decision and showing them all the alternatives and advantages? Or judging them and condemning them (such as equating them with Nazi's) which will more likely push them over the edge....not to mention, turn against the Bible.
And the best part of this video "don't vote for a politician who is for abortion"....oh good grief. How about a real politician that believes in the sanctity of life that's, oh I don't know, not just against abortion, but against the death penalty, anti-war, believes in helping single parents, etc. You know, maybe change the current political discussion on this for the better? But no, focus on only one aspect and to hell with the rest....even if it might be influencing the opposite reaction of what your trying to accomplish.
Finally, those who are inspired by this, it just shows me how shallow your thinking is. Rather than look at the whole picture, focus on one single narrow aspect and come back with a narrow view. The problem isn't just making this illegal again...all you do is force those seeking abortion into back alley "clinics" or into another country where it is legal. You need to have a complete change of attitude and show the positives of foregoing abortion. Continual negative reinforcement (particularly by the X-tian right) will only exacerbate the problem. The church is where your supposed to appeal for help on problems, not where to get condemned. In short, this phoney documentary is nothing new. There are plenty of X-tian right videos that demonize abortion...but again still short on education. All it does is reinforce shallow thinking on the X-tian right and does little to address a much bigger problem.
And....why are you pushing your hate-tainted evangelism here Steve? Thought you walked away for good. Its not like abortion is promoted among Molokans, whereas the X-tian right is doing a bang up job of convincing others in their arena.
